Pinot Gris Ramato is produced using 100% estate-grown pinot gris. A "Ramato". Italian for "Auburn", is made by allowing the juice to have skin contact prior to fermentation to provide color to a normally white wine.
For the 2020 vintage, we allowed the juice to both macerate with the grape skins for the eight days, and undergo native yeast fermentation. Dovetailing these traditional winemaking methods has allowed us to explore deeper flavor profiles associated with the Pinot Gris grape grown here on Aquidneck Island. The wine consists of rich aromatics--from licorice to dried fruits, guava, and melon. On the palate, we experience soft notes of pear, caramelized apple, and apricot, followed by a soft, lingering finish. The 2020 Pinot Gris Ramato demonstrates the immense versatility in the Pinot Gris grape, whose finesse and phenolics set it up nicely for aging potential, and will develop over time.
Cabernet Franc is a Classic medium-bodied red with moderate tannins. Known for its savory flavors and defined by a balance of red fruit, herbs, and peppery earthiness. Its medium-high acidity makes it easy to drink and ideal for food pairing. Our Cabernet Franc 2017 has been blended with 17% Merlot and 5% Malbec, fermented, and aged for 16 months in French oak barrels to optimize flavor.
Rhyming with "heritage," our Meritage is a perfect blend crafted solely from specific "noble" Bordeaux grape varieties. The Merlot gives a round fruit character, soft tannins, and supple texture to the wine, contributing lively fruit characteristics and aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and blueberry. The Malbec enhances color and acidity while Cabernet Franc adds finesse and earthiness. Aged in oak barrels, our Meritage is a blend of 64% Merlot, 25% Malbec, and 11% Cabernet Franc.
Well balanced, our chardonnay is a dry, bright wine, with delicious fruit character and subtle oak. It is satisfying by itself and also compliments a lighter meal that might include chicken, salmon, light cheeses, garlic, and salt. It is barrel fermented and aged in gently-used French oak barrels.
The Chardonnay Select has pleasant fruit aromas that blend with the pleasant aromas of French oak. This Chardonnay is fermented and then aged in a combination of new and uses French oak which balances the acidity with a smooth slightly oakier finish. More Burgundian in style. It is a great pairing with lobster or chicken off the grill. The Select is primarily from the oldest Chardonnay vines which were planted in 1983.
Skipping Stone is a blend of Cayuga and Vidal Blanc. Very light in color, this wine is aromatic with a bright floral nose. It has delicious fruit flavors and is refreshing on the palate. It is off-dry with a nice balance of fruit and acidity. Skipping Stone is great by itself with cheese and like the Vidal is superb with spicy food.
The estate-grown vermouth is fortified with brandy, derived from our Pinot Gris Grapes, providing beautiful aromatic notes.
